Ace Combat 3D Announced

The popular Japanese flight sim Ace Combat is branching out into the third dimension, as Namco Bandai announced a new game for the Nintendo 3DS.

Details on Ace Combat 3DS are scarce, with Project Ace's Kazutoki Kono unable to confirm whether we'd be seeing a straight 3D port of a previous Ace Combat title, or an all-new game.

"As a member of Project Aces, I am overseeing the 3DS version of Ace Combat, but actually the 3DS version is being made by the handheld department that made Ace Combat X and Joint Assault," he told IGN, "It has a different producer and director to Assault Horizon, so we can't really go into details."

The last two handheld games from Project Aces were PSP-only titles, with Ace Combat Advance the last Nintendo outing for the series in 2005.

With Ace Combat: Assault Horizon shaping up to be a new, more accessible direction for the franchise, colour us excited for Ace Combat 3DS.
