The crew of the USS Enterprise may boldly go where no one has gone before, but director J.J. Abrams' forthcoming Star Trek sequel is not so boldly going where plenty of films have gone before: 3D. This would, however, mark the first Trek film produced for the format.

Deadline claims that the tentatively titled Star Trek 2 has set its release date as May 17, 2013, the slot recently vacated by Roland Emmerich's now-delayed Singularity.

The site had no word on the rumors of Khan, Klingons, Tribbles and jungle planets.

UPDATED, Nov. 24: Coming Soon got composer Michael Giacchino to confirm that he will be back to score the sequel.
