At a recent multiplayer event, I got my hands on Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary's multiplayer to see what it had to offer fans of the franchise.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary's multiplayer suite will be instantly familiar to those who have played Halo: Reach's online component, down to the special abilities that you'll have in addition to the on-map weaponry. Whereas the single-player campaign will use the new Saber3d engine, multiplayer is all Reach.

The real meat of Anniversary's multiplayer component is the included maps. Halo: CE Anniversary offers seven retooled maps from past Halo titles; a greatest hits collection of familiar favorites.

High Noon, a remake of Halo: CE's Hang 'em High, is almost a straight forward retooling of the original map -- save for some aesthetic differences. The map's blend of open spaces, trenches and high walkways makes for some frantic and hairy firefights.

Then there's Breakneck. Breakneck is a remake of Halo 2's Headlong map. It has its share of high catwalks, but on the ground is a vehicular focused affair, with Warthogs, Ghosts, and Scorpions (oh my) bringing some ground-level wanton destruction.

Check out the videos below for a more in-depth look at Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary's multiplayer goodness.

Stay tuned for our impressions of the game's single-player campaign.
