Eureka: "This One Time at Space Camp..." Review

"No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!" Oh Eureka, how I love your pop culture references! The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man... Dungeons & Dragons... a 20-sided die for luck. Truly, this show is hard to beat in that department!

But things went deeper on this week's episode. We got a look into the pasts of some of our favorite characters. Oh sure, it was a sort of a flashback episode, but it was a really, really well done one. Most of those things really don't advance the season arc at all. This one brought us revelations galore. In this one, we learned all about Jo's family of three brothers and a father, and why she is the way she is. I love little Jo! Excellent casting here. This, combined with the look at Zane's past and his daddy issues makes the relationship between Jo and Zane even sweeter. Jo seems to have made peace with herself. It will be interesting to see if Zane does as well. This, of course, leaves me wondering how things would have played out if the show had been given all the episodes we were originally hoping for.

We also got a glimpse into the childhood rivalry between Dr. Parrish and Fargo. The whole thing was well done, but I still think Parrish is kind of one note. It would have been interesting to see if there was a childhood reason for his priggishness. Another fantastic geek out moment was the cameo from Aaron Douglas from frakking Battlestar Galactica as the camp director.

Our two favorite geeks got closer to hooking up this week. Did anyone else yelp with laughter as the camera showed us that Fargo and Holly chose to play D&D; to relax rather than have sex? (Or should I say "wormholing?") Assuming they're going to take care of that before the mission. Anyone want to take bets on when? I've loved Fargo from the beginning and it's wonderful to see him come into his own.

Wallace Shawn was back as Warren, the man responsible for whether or not Carter and Allison can legally date. Sure, the liquid spilling on the tech and forcing Carter's memories into Warren's brain was a bit silly, but any excuse to see Wallace Shawn be Wallace Shawn is hard to argue with.
