Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 crossed the $1bn mark at the global box office over the weekend, making it the biggest film in the franchise.
With a cumulative total of $1.008bn, it's now the ninth film in history to reach the billion-dollar mark, following in the footsteps of Avatar, Titanic, The Return of the King and the like.
The film is still making big bucks all over the globe, prompting Warner's Veronika Kwan-Rubinek to state: "We are so proud that this last film in the series has not only reached such heights but has reached them in record time. It is now Warner Bros' most successful release ever, and there is still plenty more to come."
And with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides crossing the billion dollar mark last month and Transformers: Dark of the Moon poised to do the same, 2011 is fast become a remarkable year for the box office.
