We are proud to launch our Radio Crash Course for 14-19 year olds. We are offering the first course as part of the 2010 Futureversity prospectus (previously known as Tower Hamlets Summer Uni) as well as a stand alone course throughout 2010. Radio Crash Course
Do you want insider knowledge on what it takes to create a show for Rinse FM? You’ll work with the experts to learn about music programming, presenting and interviewing techniques and then you’ll plan, record, promote and broadcast your very own show live on Rinse

PRU work
We will be working with Pupil Referral Unit students completing the AQA Certificate Award Scheme in Music.

Students aged between 14 and 16 select from a huge list of different music units and Rinse will be assessing radio focused modules

Rinse are excited about this partnership which has been initiated by Tim Smith (who also sits on our board). Tim knows East London very well—he headed up the Music department and taught Dizzee at Langdon Park School!

Rinse would like to say a BIG thank you to The Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music and Serato Audio Research for their kind support contributing to the set up of our Academy room. Thanks to them Rinse is now able to offer state of the art equipment for courses and drop in sessions.

Without this kind of support we wouldn’t have been able to launch our academy room. We are always on the look out for any organisations that could offer a helping hand.

Formerly an unlicensed broadcaster and an internet radio station, Rinse FM has established itself as a not-for-profit Community Radio station that offers opportunities for individual young people, schools, local and related youth and community groups to have free access and training for radio platforms and other media projects and activities. Rinse FM’s work will target those who are denied opportunities because of their situation and enable them to develop the skills of participants.

In stark contrast to the homogenized radio landscape Rinse FM seeks to champion the diverse needs of young London and those passionate about youth-orientated music culture, showcasing genres typically referred to as urban and/or dance while interacting with and influencing those scenes. Our fiercely grass-roots broadcasting ethos engages massively under-represented communities, especially 15-24 year olds.

Through the creation of the Rinse Academy and operation of our flagship Community Radio station, our organisation promotes and delivers both formal and informal education and training, as well as broadcast and other media opportunities in Central, South and East London and the neighbouring areas.
