ModNation Racers is just days away from its retail launch. If you haven't been keeping up with ModNation (you've disappointed the PlayStation universe), the game combines traditional kart racing with the Play, Create, Share theme that started with Media Molecule's popular platformer, LittleBigPlanet. If you want to learn more, don't miss out on Greg Miller's full review.
Because many of us at IGN are excited for ModNation Racers, we wanted to spend some time designing some IGN-themed creations for you to download when the game hits store shelves next week. These creations are simple and meant to show you how easy it is to flex your creative muscles in ModNation Racers. We asked our own Brian "Miggs" Miggels, graphic designer and all-around swell guy, to whip up a mod (character), kart and a track. Check out the results below.
If you like what you see, be sure to hit up Greg's PSN ID, GameOverGreggy, to download the IGN-themed creations for yourself when the game comes out. And start making your own fantastic mods, karts and tracks when ModNation Racers arrives on the 25th.
You can see in this first video that Miggs started by playing around with different skins for the IGN Mod, before settling on a solid red color to reflect the IGN color scheme. Sure, it would have been cool to have the IGN Mod wear a crazy hockey mask, but Miggs decided to stick with the stylish shades and a small ear piece (for all those urgent communications from Editor-in-Chief Hilary Goldstein). You'll also notice that the IGN Mod looks a little crazy. That's because all IGN journalists relinquish their sanity upon initiation.
Here's where Miggs started to instill his badass nature into his digital children. The IGN Kart reflects the same red color palette as the Mod, but sports a few fantastic additions. First, notice the intimidating spikes lining the two back tires. Don't worry -- these are totally legal to race with. Miggs also mounted a large drill on the front of the kart (for those pesky underground races) and some majestic bullhorns. At this point, we didn't really know what he was going for, but that's okay. At least he installed the beer keg engine in the back of the kart. Clutch!
When it comes to the IGN Track, Miggs went back to the basics. A simple circular track is all you need for a good race, but our designer also made sure to recreate the IGN logo in tree form at the center of the stage. If this wasn't subtle enough, he also raised a mountain range spelling out "IGN" next to the track. There will be no mistaking this creation! Although, the liberal application of track-side sheep is also a notable feature of Miggs' raceway.
And there you have it! With just a few minutes of tinkering around, Miggs was able to whip up three IGN-themed creations for you to enjoy. But that's not all we have for you! Next week, IGN will be giving away a whole bag of codes for ModNation Racers DLC. This includes the Air-Raid Ace Pilot and his Custom Fighter Plane Kart! If you want a chance to win, just follow IGN on Twitter at Twitter.com/IGN or "like" IGN's official Facebook page at Facebook.com/IGN and we'll do the rest this coming Wednesday.
