Picture of the Day: "...Mother." Submitted by Kaboo Hahahein
Archive | Submit | | Soupe Du Jour: Reconnecting | I have a confession to make, one that may seem rather shocking coming from a staff member of this website: I haven't so much as touched the game of Descent for over a year now. No multiplayer, no singleplayer, nothing. Or at least that was the case until a day or two ago. I was sitting in my room at night, with nothing in particular to do, when I decided to give in to the niggling sensation in the back of my head that it was high time to climb back into my Pyro. I (literally) dusted off my 3D Pro, hooked up Grendel's wonderful converter, and rummaged around for my game disks...only to find, to my chagrin, that I didn't even have Vortex installed anymore, or even some of the old standby levels. When I finally got everything squared away, I fired up the server list and saw to my delight that there were quite a few old die-hards in-game. I jumped right into a round of Abend2...only to be instantly reminded of just how rusty it was. But I soon got back into a rhythm, and before I fell into one of my usual cold streaks and decided to call it a night, I had managed to rack up a decent number of kills. During a short hot streak, I found myself laughing at the sheer joy of that old familiar adrenaline rush. It had truly been far too long.
So why was I away for such a significant length of time? I couldn't begin to tell you. But like that one annoying song asks, who says you can't go home? So keep an eye out down in the mines, and with any luck, you'll soon see me again, hopefully planting a Smart missile where the sun don't shine.

| | | | | | | | | Multiplayer Bots on Descentforum.NET 1:35 PM PST | Descent 3 | Marix Thanks to the work of SuperSheep and the commitment of Do_Checkor you will now always find a server with some opponents.
Descentforum.NET will fill emtpy slots on its servers with the so called Spike bots which you can fight until the next player joins. For every player that joins one bot will leave, therefore the game can slowly drift to an all humans game. If a human player leaves another bot will join again. The bots are still in an early stage of development and slow but well aiming.

| | | | | | | | | Descent Series on Good Old Games and Gametap 7:55 PM PST | Descent 3 | Top Gun Good Old Games, a recently-founded gaming service dedicated to making high-quality PC games of the past available for purchase, has made available all three of the Descent games, along with a number of other Interplay titles (including the Freespace series). Each game has been tweaked to be XP/Vista compatible and is completely DRM-free, meaning that you can back up your purchase as many times as you like; in addition, you're able to re-download any game you purchase an unlimited number of times. For just $5.99 US a pop, you can finally legally get your hands on any of the Descent titles you never got the chance to purchase. The service is still in beta, but it should be fully launched in the near future.
In addition, the subscription gaming service Gametap recently returned Descent II and 3 (as well as the Freespace series) to its lineup after they were removed for some time. Our favorite game series is getting around quite a bit these days, isn't it?
