"DING" "Gratz!" August 2007 is when GenCon hits 40 -- 40 years, that is. Four decades ago the "Lake Geneva Convention" started as a small group of friends in Wisconsin who congregated in Dungeons & Dragons creator Gary Gygax's house for a few days of gaming, gabbing and full-on geekish revelry.

A lot has changed since then. The show has grown into a full-blown monster, easily the biggest thing to hit Indianapolis after the Indy 500. It includes subsidiary shows in Europe and now Australia. The number of people attending has grown to a mammoth 65,000 (many of them wheeling the next generation of gamers in baby carriages) and there are a lot more videogames among the papers, pencils and cards.

What hasn't changed is it's still a celebration of all things gaming. Join GameSpy as we hit the convention floor in search of all the cool stuff on display.
