After a false start early this week, Muzzy Lane Software has re-released the updated playable demo for Making History: the Calm & the Storm, again renewing the chance to try out their upcoming 3D turn-based World War II grand strategy game. As before, this pre-release demo contains one scenario playable with all eight nations for a limited number of turns, and this upgrade "incorporates improvements to Artificial Intelligence, User Interface and fixes of some minor bugs."
Bohemia Interactive has issued a dedicated server for the playable demo of Armed Assault, the sample of their contemporary tactical first-person shooter. This version 1.03 build 5510 distribution contains a dedicated server executable and instructions for hosting standalone demo games.
The Italian and Spanish patches for the retail and Gold editions of Sacred: Underworld are now online, bringing these language variants of the semi-3D fantasy role-playing expansion pack by Ascaron to version 2.28, in sync with last month's other updates. Alientrap has issued a new release for Nexuiz, advancing their free (GPL-ed) futuristic multiplayer deathmatch shooter based on the Quake engine to version 2.2.2. Akella has released a Russian playable demo for Tarr Chronicles, offering the first opportunity to try out the sci-fi role-playing space-combat game in the works at Quazar Studio. There are no details on the contents of this demo and it's entirely in Russian, so your parsec-age may vary if you don't command the language beyond 'da' and 'njet'.
Frogster Interactive has issued the first retail patch for Bet on Soldier: Black-out Saigon, updating the German edition of the second expansion pack to the futuristic first-person shooter by Kylotonn Entertainment to an unspecified version number. This upgrade addresses script problems, improves the frame rate, and fixes other issues.
There is another updated Gold demo and retail patch for Sailors of the Sky to bring the sailplane simulation by Jes�s Saiz Ayala to version 6.16. As usual lately, details on the changes in this version have not been provided.

A new D2D patch for Sid Meier's Railroads! is now online to update the downloadable edition of this 3D railroad management strategy game by Firaxis to version 1.10, in sync with last week's retail upgrade. As before, this patch "includes some new features like a free camera, a 'use all trains' command in the traintable mode, a Terrain Editor" and other improvements and fixes.
In a recent interview Digital Extremes has stated that Dark Sector, their sci-fi 3D action game, is no longer in development for PC, confirming our suspicion following a missing PCCD logo on the new official site, and publisher D3's ominous (but unfortunately all too common) refusal to speak out on the subject. Consequently we have now removed our game section for this title.

Deep Silver has issued new retail patches for ANNO 1701, upgrading the UK, French, Italian, Spanish and Polish editions of the 3D trading management strategy sequel by Related Designs Software to version 1.01, in sync with the earlier US and German upgrades. As before, this release adds a number of new interface features and addresses a wide variety of gameplay, AI, balance, multiplayer and other issues.
A recent D2D patch for Medieval II: Total War is now online to bring the US downloadable edition of this 3D real-time and turn-based strategy sequel by Creative Assembly to version 1.1, in sync with the earlier retail upgrades. As before, this update adds a ModTool Unpacker and applies a large number of crash repairs, gameplay and AI tweaks, bug fixes and other changes as detailed in the accompanying release notes.
Another new movie trailer for Supreme Commander has been released, showing off the sci-fi 3D real-time strategy game being beta tested at Gas Powered Games. This high-res movie again demonstrates a bit under two minutes of multiplayer gameplay footage, complete with developer commentary.
Taleworlds has released another public beta trial for Mount&Blade;, bringing their upcoming medieval fantasy action role-playing strategy hybrid to version 0.808. You can patch from the v0.800+ community betas or use the updated full install, and this version adds graphics improvements, better support for mods, gameplay enhancements, many bug fixes, and other changes.
