Valentino Rossi Gets First-Ever Rally Win

After coming close with a runner-up finish last year, MotoGP star Valentino Rossi finally took his maiden victory on the Monza Rally in Italy � and his first-ever official triumph on a four-wheel machine.

Rossi beat sports car ace Rinaldo �Dindo� Capello, the defending event winner, by 25 seconds after two days of competition.

"It was about time I won this event since I've tried for the past 10 years," Rossi told Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport.

"I gained my experience in the lower ranks and now I'm reaping the rewards," he added.

Recently, Rossi confirmed that he plans a return to racing at World Rally Championship level, entering next year�s Rally Great Britain. This season, the Italian drove a Subaru Impreza in the New Zealand WRC event.
