The Burmese army often accuses local Mons people as rebel sympathizers, killings, rapes, forced labours, and lands confiscating by the army are widespread in the areas. After land confiscation, the Mon farmers in the surrounding areas greatly suffered as below;

In Burma Today, although the military regime claims that it has achieved unity with the ethnic nationalities, the truth is that our ethnic nationalities are suffering greatly from repression of all kinds e.g. In the Mon State, the teaching of Mon language in schools has been prohibited.
