Holi, the festival of colours was celebrated in Goa today, with members of the Hindu community largely participating in the celebrations.

The city witnessed abundant splash of colours and coloured water to celebrate the Holi. Large number of women were also seen participating in the exchange of colours.

A decision on holding by-elections in five assembly seats of Goa, which was brought under President’s rule early this month, is likely to be taken by the Election Commission in a week’s time.

“We will take a decision in a week’s time on holding the by-polls or otherwise,” EC sources told PTI.

Chinchinim zilla panchayat (ZP) member, Mr Joe Dias was today selected as the Congress-backed group’s nominee to the South Goa Zilla Panchayat (SGZP) chairman’s post through a draw of lots, at a meeting held in the Congress district office here.Disclosing this to reporters, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Mr Luizinho Faleiro said the decision to select Mr Joe Dias as the SGZP chairperson for the first two years, followed by former vice-chairperson, Mr Atul Verlekar and former chairperson, Ms Nelly Rodrigues for a duration of two and one years respectively was taken by the members themselves.
