December 03, 2004 - The UK computer and video games industry honored David Ward and Jon Woods, founders of Ocean Software, a developer which thrived after its founding in the early 1980s.

Ward and Woods received the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA)'s Hall of Fame award, which honors achievement in the UK games industry.

Ocean Software produced classic titles such as Platoon, Top Gun, Jurassic Park, and SimAnt for the Amiga. Ocean also created arcade titles such as Operation Wolf and Renegade. The company eventually merged into what is today Atari.

"Many people consider Ocean Software to be pioneers who helped to transform the UK computer and video games into a real multi national business," commented ELSPA director general Roger Bennett. "Together Ward and Woods coined much of the terminology of the games industry and instigated many of its milestones, including the use of brands and franchises from traditional media and the formal processes of protecting intellectual property."
