  • The war in Iran marked a significant setback in Americans' year-long battle with high prices. While inflation has long come down from its 2021/2022 highs, when it peaked at 9 percent, it remains elevated at 3.4 percent. More importantly though, people are still struggling to cope with the lasting effects of the inflation crisis. According to a Statista Consumer Insights survey conducted between January and July 2026, 53 percent of U.S. adults said that the high cost of living was one of the biggest challenges they currently face – making it by far the most common answer ahead of mental and physical health at 26 percent each. It is a common misconception that prices come down when inflation cools, when in reality a period of high inflation leaves a legacy of high prices. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. consumer prices have increased 26.7 percent since January 2021, with some categories seeing even steeper price increases than that. Food prices are up 27.2 percent, rents have increased more than 30 percent and transportation prices are up 35 percent. And yet, nominal wages have only grown 25.7 percent since January 2021, leaving many people worse off than they were five years ago.

  • New records for global high temperatures keep getting set every few years now. Nevertheless, the topic of climate change has still not reached the top of the agenda for many people, as data from Statista Consumer Insights shows. Respondents in none of the 32 nations covered by the survey collectively rate climate change as the most important problem for their own country when asked to name the issues that are of the biggest significance to them. Of the countries included in the survey, the United Arab Emirates come closest with climate change being named as a severe issue by a third of respondents – rank 2 among 20 issues. In Vietnam, 40 percent said the same, but this only landed the issue in rank 3, as the Vietnamese were colllectively even more concerned about inflation and healthcare/social security. Climate change also reached rank 3 in Saudi Arabia, at only 23 percent naming it, however. Another example from Asia illustrates how rank and share of respondents can differ, as in the Philippines, a 40 percent share of respondents saying climate change was one of the most important issues for the country only rank it tenth because Filipinos take even bigger issue with topics ranging from inflation to corruption, the economy, crime and poverty. A quarter of respondents very concerned about climate change means the issue reached rank 6 in South Korea, followed by China and India, where it comes in eighth. Despite ranking the same in both countries, climate change was recognized as a big problem by more people in India at 32 percent. In China, 21 percent rating climate change as such was among the survey's lowest results, together with outcomes in the Netherlands (21 percent, rank 8), Poland (21 percent, rank 10) and Belgium and Mexico (21 percent, rank 11) as well as Colombia (20 percent, rank 11) and Argentina (13 percent, rank 13). Among nations such as France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom or the United States, worry about climate change hovered between 22 and 25 percent, not surpassing rank 9. It reached the lowest rank in the survey in the U.S., with 22 percent of respondents naming it for a rank 14.

  • 🏨 In the UK, chain hotels consistently report more positive business sentiment than independents across all surveyed metrics, according to the 2026 UK Accommodation Barometer. Chains score higher on economic conditions, key performance indicators, room rates and occupancy. They also tend to rate their access to financing, investment capacity and pace of technology adoption more favorably. Independent hotels track more conservatively across each of these areas. Chains are typically better positioned to absorb economic pressures and leverage scale, whether through investment capacity, pace of technology adoption, or more favorable access to financing. Despite these gaps, the overall perception of the business environment remains broadly aligned across accommodation types, suggesting that UK operators respond to the same underlying market conditions. This gap widened significantly in 2026 across key metrics like room rate trends, occupancy, and access to capital, as chain hotels providers trended up while independent hotels saw little to no increase in positive sentiment. This excerpt and infographic have been adapted from the 2026 European Accommodation Barometer. You can download the full report here along with local-language country reports covering the results from 15 of the surveyed countries. Booking.com Click here 👉 https://lnkd.in/et8b5g3g

  • Following the suspension of U.S. military aid under the Trump administration, European countries have increased their support for Ukraine, significantly ramping up the volume of their assistance in 2025 and early 2026. Data from the Kiel Institute’s Ukraine Support Tracker shows that while overall European aid has helped offset the gap left by Washington, its composition is also shifting. In particular, military aid directed to drone provision has surged, rising from under €400 million in 2022 to more than €1.5 billion through the first four months of 2026. Drones have become a defining feature of the war in Ukraine, reshaping how both sides conduct reconnaissance, target acquisition and strikes. From inexpensive first-person-view drones used in frontline attacks to more advanced long-range systems, unmanned drones offer a relatively low-cost way to offset conventional disadvantages. As a result, Ukraine has built a growing domestic drone ecosystem, supported by Western funding and expertise, turning drones into a central pillar of its defense strategy. European governments have adjusted their aid strategy accordingly, channeling resources into drone procurement, joint production initiatives and innovation programs. “European donors are now entering drone financing and production on a large scale,” Christoph Trebesch, head of the Ukraine Support Tracker said. “As a result, support for Ukraine is increasingly becoming a two-way exchange: financial aid flows to Ukraine, while technological spillovers flow back to Europe.”

  • Statista is once again surveying leading hospitals worldwide to assess the implementation of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). Hospitals that routinely use PROMs or are piloting their implementation across selected departments are invited to participate and contribute to advancing patient-centered care. Responses will contribute to the 2027 Statista hospital rankings, including World’s Best Hospitals 2027. PROMs are increasingly central to patient-centered care, capturing patients' perspectives on their health, symptoms, functional well-being, and quality of life. The survey examines how hospitals collect, integrate, report, and apply PROMs data across clinical care, quality improvement, research, benchmarking, and value-based healthcare initiatives.  In this year’s edition of the annual PROMs Implementation Survey, Statista has placed an even stronger emphasis on data validation and quality. Participating hospitals are asked to support relevant responses with recent, attributable, and claim-specific documentary evidence. Submitted materials may also be assessed for data integrity, internal consistency, source quality, and traceability. Participation gives hospitals an opportunity to demonstrate the maturity and impact of their PROMs programs, showcasing how patient-reported data support clinical decision-making, improve care pathways, strengthen governance, and drive continuous quality improvement. Through its rigorous evidence-based methodology and validation standards, the survey aims to provide a reliable and meaningful assessment of PROMs implementation across hospitals worldwide. • The age structure of the United States is steadily shifting toward older generations. Over the decades, older cohorts have gained significant weight, while younger ones have grown more slowly. This trend is illustrated by a Statista animation based on data from the United Nations Population Division.   As the large postwar generations move into higher age brackets, younger cohorts are not keeping pace. One key reason is a long-term decline in birth rates, resulting in smaller incoming generations. At the same time, rising life expectancy is allowing more people to reach older age, steadily increasing the size of senior groups relative to the young.   The shift carries broad implications for the economy and society. An aging population could put added pressure on social security systems and reshape the labor market. Demand for health care and elder services is likely to grow, while consumption patterns and lifestyles may increasingly reflect the needs of an older population.
