Our Physics of Fluids Co-Editor-in-Chief Gerald Fuller shares his reflections from a recent visit to Poland, where he attended the Annual European Rheology Conference 2026 in Kraków, visited the University of Warsaw and most importantly, connected with colleagues and friends.
Having returned from the Annual European Rheology Conference 2026 in Krakow, I want to offer my sincere congratulations to Anna Ptaszek and her team at the Polish Society of Engineering Rheology . They organized a wonderful meeting, full of excellent science, warm hospitality, and many chances to reconnect with colleagues and friends. My trip began in Warsaw, where I visited the Institute of Physics at the University of Warsaw. My host, Maciej Lisicki, arranged for me to give a seminar on the stability of the tear film. It was a pleasure to spend time with Maciej, who has recently joined the editorial team of AIP Publishing's Physics of Fluids as an Associate Editor. The rest of the trip was filled with memorable conversations, remarkable scientists, and truly fabulous meals across Poland. In Krakow, it was especially meaningful to gather with friends and colleagues at a dinner hosted by Jan Vermant and myself to celebrate Professor Peter Fischer of ETH Zurich, who received the Weissenberg Award from the European Society of Rheology. I was also glad to host a dinner with members of AIP Publishing's Physics of Fluids Editorial Board and to spend time with colleagues from across Europe, including Javier Tajuelo and Mariana Rodríguez Hakim from Madrid. The photos capture just a few moments from a trip that reminded me how much our field depends on personal connections, shared meals, generous hosts, and the joy of learning from one another. Thank you to Anna, Maciej, Peter, and all the colleagues who made this visit to Poland so memorable.
