Prerequisites

  • I have searched for similar issues in both open and closed tickets and cannot find a duplicate.
  • The issue still exists against the latest stable version of Elementor.

Steps to reproduce

After I upgraded the Elementor plugin to 2.9.2, the Typography options are disappeared from the style tab on Section/Column/Inner section widget.

I've disabled the style on the Elementor setting already.

Here is the typography field.

Isolating the problem

  • This bug happens with only Elementor plugin active (and Elementor Pro).
  • This bug happens with a default WordPress theme active.
  • I can reproduce this bug consistently using the steps above.

+1 Same here.
According the beta testing thread, this should be something like a "feature" (see: #10323 (comment)).

@mirokosut commented on Feb 7, 2020, 12:09 AM GMT+2:

Hi Elementor Team,
So far so good with the new features. However, I cannot align the whole section (or a column) to the center/left/right because the Typography does not open. See the screenshot:
Thank you!
Cheers,
Miro

Hi Miro, thanks, please notice that in the changelog we mentioned that this section is deprecated for users who didn't use it until now:
image

But this "feature" neither works as advertised (not showing previous settings or the deprecation note), nor there is a reason, why to drop this setting (at least until, something better will come).

It was really handy to have the possiblility to change the align (or other settings) for the whole section in one place, instead of doing this for all the widgets inside. It's easier to maintain and it reduces the CSS bloat.

Please do reinstate this feature. Removing the feature now makes typography aspects, such as link, hover states more difficult on a per page basis.

A wholehearted +1. Removing this has left a hole that hasn’t been filled by other features/improvements.

Would be nice if this comes back. Theme styling in combination with typography for columns and sections would be a killer feature :-) No coding and enough flexibility with the styling.

Now I feel a bit like a WordPress user from 2 years back. Restrictions within a theme ;-( That’s the whole point I switched all my sites to Elementor, but now I would like to have the quick workflow to remain

Removing this feature has been catastrophic to our workflow. The whole idea of using a GUI based builder gets thrown out of the window starting right at the header with horizontal navigation that you now need to use custom CSS just to remove underlines. (How many sites have you seen with underlined links in their headers?)

It feels like the dev team was so focused on global styling that they lost sight of the original purpose of the application.

As a result, our newest project has been the first we will build with Oxygen, but hope to return to Elementor when the developers realign their development path with the client needs.

Bring it back please. This removes a very handy feature which has not been replaced in any way by upgrading to the latest version. In fact this opens the door to CSS bloat and therefore is not a good move.

This bothers me because I bought Elementor based on its ease and being able to adjust each section individually. I know HTML and CSS but love the drag-and-drop features and quick changes that can be made, especially with these now-missing optins.

I loved how easy it was to design each section with different colors, typography, etc. and think it's truly bad user experience to remove them. I think the theme styling is great and there is a use for it but, to remove these other options, isn't helpful at all. It shouldn't be an "either or" choice but a "this and that" option, if that makes sense.

+1 theme styles are good but having the flexibility to easily change some items on a per needed basis is essential to me. For example what if I make a dark section or a call to action section that doesn't fit my global styling? How am I then supposed to style that section?

It's discouraging to see the dev's responding to other threads while ignoring this thread - which is the most commented on thread in Elementor's GITHUB recent history. Also makes that whole "Support is available through GitHub" a bit of a hollow promise.

Oh, we are now told that saying +1 is how we get you to fix problems. That must be why there's been no reply. Some of us forgot the +1. Ignore that fact that there were 28 comments.

For the amount of time this thread has been going (6 days to this point) and also the number of comments (37 to this one) it's a bit strange that no dev or Elementor rep has provided any explanation or presentation of their intended pathway, with detail of both developments in the next updates and timescales for deployment of updates.

Any feedback from the dev team would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I need this back asap! What‘s the whole point in having libraries full of different colored sections (dark ones and light ones) and being able to combine different looks on a per-sections basis if we can‘t change link colors etc. on those sections without styling tons of elements or going back to dark age CSS.

The concept of alternating section backgrounds is one of the reasons I came to Elementor, it is used in all my current projects.

Please give us a possibility to overwrite Theme Styles on a per section setting.

+1 for this. I too think that this thread at least deserves a response from the development team. I think that it was a poor decision to remove this feature before an equivalent method is added (which I've heard is coming in Elementor 3.0).

Thought you all would appreciate an update on this from support:

  1. What is the rationale for this? Theme styles doesn't replace the functionality. I see them as complementary.

This option has been removed because of issues it caused with the Theme style and there are still discussions to know if it is possible to leave it as it was with the brand new theme style. In any case, the global styles feature should address the issue at some point.
Please note that for any place that used section or column typography that capability will still be available.

  1. What is the new recommended workflow to keep typography consistent when building a theme or page with Elementor? Specifically for contrasting blocks that have text and background colors reversed? This is a basic design paradigm.

There is no recommended workflow so far. The workflow is different now (and I understand that it is less effective than the previous one) given that the typography is only available at the widget level.

Given that this modification is still being discussed, I can only update you once there will be a final decision regarding this.

It's good to see some reaction from the Elementor Crew but, to me, it's clear in their response that perhaps they don't understand the impact on some of removing the typography option. Now, I get why there may be some technical difficulties, alongside Theme Style but, by virtue of the fact that if you had previously used typography settings in a section, they remain intact after updates, then, surely it can't be beyond a quick fix?

Adding a +1 from me!
Theme Style is great! But I need to be able to override colors in sections with a dark background. It is more efficient to do this once for a section rather than multiple times for each widget in that section.

@elbowroomrich elbowroomrich commented Mar 6, 2020

In terms of the issue of mobile numbers becoming the link colour on devices, if you add <meta name="format-detection" content="telephone=no"> into the header, it prevents browsers automatically detecting them and changing them into links.

Please return the ability to set typography for Sections. This feature was in Elementor since day 1 and we're used to it being there. I'm not a web developer guru which is why I started using Elementor way back in the beginning - ease of use. But you guys keep changing and adding more and more to it. It happens with all software. Develop something great and then add too much to it and it becomes complicated and less useful.

It's like Elementor was a car and one day just took away the ability to turn on the aircon in your car and asked you to use the window instead but didn't tell you they were removing the aircon.
Yes the windows can kind of do the job of aircon but one is much more comfortable, usable and less messy. Bring it back!! I'm on 2.9.9 and it's still not there, what is going on?
