  3. So, keep this in mind: you might not have fared so well if you had these obstacles in your path. So, help others who are not like you. Recognize them. Don't get defensive when someone challenges your ideas. Maybe you're wrong. 9/

  4. But some days, I am so angry. I am furious. I want to shake my fist at the sky and remind people that I'm here. I've accomplished more than most, and you fucking need to take me seriously. We all need to be taken seriously. 8/

  8. As a woman who is *trained* to question everything and think outside the box, I'm not like most people. I ask the hard questions. I hold people accountable. And I don't let people get away with bad behavior. 4/

  9. This is the challenge that underrepresented folks face in tech. It's not always unconscious bias -- not exactly. It's often, "I like people who are like me. I trust people who are like me. I like people I can get a beer with." 3/

  11. I have impressive qualifications. I earned a PhD in CS from a prestigious university. I worked at top-tier tech companies. I've built amazing products. And yet. Most of my jobs have not recognized my talents. 1/

  15. Being the child of immigrant parents is really just a series of realizing how much your parents crave stability and survival and then trying to convince your parents that you now have the privilege to give up a little bit of that stability

  17. Passionate developer != quality code I’m not sure why people assume there is a correlation, but it seems to come up as an argument quite a bit. You can join the industry because it provides a stable job AND take pride in your work.

  18. THIS IS A HUGE FUCKING DEAL ⚡️ As we're getting a chance to look at more COVID clusters, we're finding cloth masks don't necessarily *keep you from getting infected* But they DO dramatically increase the odds that your case will be mild, low-symptom or asymptomatic.
