Richard Stallman resigns as president of the Free Software Foundation

On 16 September, one of our independent sister organisations, the US-based Free Software Foundation (FSF), announced the resignation of Richard M. Stallman as its president. While we recognise Stallman's role in founding the Free Software movement, we welcome the decision.

Radio Lockdown: Criticism of Controversial Directive Unlikely to Sway European Commission

Since 2014, a European Directive has the effect of hindering users to load software on their radio devices, devices such as mobile phones, laptops and routers. While the European Commission recently closed a feedback period, where citizens shared their thoughts about the impact of the Directive, the FSFE worries that such feedback could very well go unheeded. The FSFE with a booth and talk at the "Kieler Open Source und Linux Tage" in Kiel, Germany

20 to 21 September 2019

The FSFE's local group in Kiel will participate at the the 17th "Kieler Open Source und Linux Tage" with a booth and a talk. Along with that, the FSFE Kiel coordinator, Christian Kalkhoff will have a session, where he will talk about the Public Money? Public Code! campaign.

The FSFE will be present with a booth at the Software Freedom Day at the NLLGG meeting in Utrecht. If you are interested in Free Software and the FSFE, pass by and get to know the people from our community and our work. We will be there from 10.00 in the morning until 16.00 o'clock. The address of the location is: Kranenburg Praktijkonderwijs, Tamboersdijk 9, 3582 TZ Utrecht, The Netherlands.

FSFE talk about REUSE at Open Source Summit in Lyon, France

28 to 30 October 2019

Max Mehl, the FSFE Programme Manager, gives a presentation about the REUSE project at the Open Source Summit Europe in Lyon. He will guide through the REUSE principles, discuss opportunities for projects and enterprises, and update on the latest exciting developments of the REUSE project. Max' talk is part of a whole track about software license compliance.

With around 2.000 participants, the OSSEU is a large event, mainly focused on an industry audience. There is an admission fee to participate in the conference, but the talk will be recorded.
