Ever since I published the blog "What I learned from the man who talked to the river," I have wanted to expand on the topic of conference speaking to reach a broader audience.

As my frequency of attending conferences increased — whether as an attendee or a speaker — my awareness and desire to compile the experiences also grew.

My interactions with many who had the interest to speak at conferences reflected some common points — concerns, rather. A recurring theme in these conversations was people’s unfamiliarity with the entire process of conference speaking.

Interestingly, for many, it was not a lack of knowledge. Instead, it was about translating that knowledge into a talk, finding opportunities by proposing it to the right conferences, and then delivering it in a way that benefits the audience.

How does this book help?

To me, conference speaking is not just about focusing on the time spent on stage. As a speaker, you don’t come alive only while on stage and hibernate until the next appearance. Although your on-stage performance is the pinnacle that presents you to the world, you must also learn to manage your actions and activities before and after the event. For this reason, I emphasize the significance of the Speaker Lifecycle in the book.

In Speak Effectively At Conferences, I focus on bringing the conference experience closer to someone who has never been to a conference, or someone who has never looked at the functioning of a conference beyond the speaker on the stage and fellow audience members sitting next to them or chatting with them at lunch.

Speaking effectively to resonate with the audience is a collaborative effort. I strive to integrate all these elements into this book. It provides a structured approach to help you navigate Planning, Practicing, and Performing effectively on stage!
