About us

Pickard Chilton is a global architecture studio that designs innovative buildings and transformative environments that deliver value and inspire community. Founded in 1997, the New Haven, Connecticut-based, 50-person studio provides design services to public and private sector clients internationally. The studio is large enough to be entrusted with highly competitive projects of landmark scale yet small enough to offer visionary clients the gratifying experience of shared engagement in the realization of their ambitious goals. The studio practices exclusively as a Design Architect and collaborates with experienced Executive Architects to meet the unique needs of each client. This practice model ensures that clients have access to the most highly qualified professionals for all aspects of design, project management, building technology, and construction administration. A collective belief that 1+1=3 enlivens our collaborations and gives weight to all voices involved in the design process. The intangible element in the equation is the relationships that add incomparable value to the process, the project, and ultimately our clients’ missions. This collaborative alchemy produces environments where occupants, innovation, and communities thrive.

  • 🎉 Celebrating our interns this week!   Our final spotlight is Jesse Fung!   "I earned my undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and am currently an incoming second-year Master of Architecture student at Yale School of Architecture. At Yale, I co-founded Ctrl-Alt-Able, the school's first disability student group, where we've organized accessibility workshops and attended an architecture accessibility conference in Toronto. As YSOA's first legally blind architecture student, I aspire to become the first legally blind licensed architect, with the goal of expanding opportunities and representation for people with disabilities in the architectural profession."

  • 🎉 Celebrating our interns this week!   Today, we are highlighting Ryan Hartfiel!   "Hi, my name is Ryan Hartfiel and I am from Houston, Texas where I grew up in a family of Texas architects and designers. I am going into the third year of my M.arch I at Yale School of Architecture where I have focused on socially driven design, circular economy, and mass timber.    Some highlights of the past year include going on a trip to Maine with my partner Ava, participating in the Cultivating Conversations fellowship at Yale, and my summer field study in Oahu, Hawaii learning about native Hawaiian land management and place-based design."

  • 🎉 Happy National Intern Day! We are celebrating our summer interns all week long.   Today, we are featuring Grayson Sommer!   "Hello! I'm Grayson Sommer, and I'm excited to be joining Pickard Chilton as an intern.   I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. I earned both my undergraduate and master's degree in Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati, and I'm currently pursuing my M.Arch. I degree at Yale. Over the years I have developed a passion for the urban environment and for bringing together urban planning, landscape architecture, and architecture into my design approach.   I'm particularly interested in how emerging technologies can enhance the design process while remaining grounded in research and a strong design vision. My goal is to help create more efficient design practices, develop projects that are informed by research, and contribute to resilient, sustainable cities that are built to last.   I'm so excited to learn and grow throughout the summer during my time at Pickard Chilton!"

  • 🎉 We are celebrating our interns this week!   Today, we're spotlighting Sarah Marcos!   "Hello, my name is Sarah Marcos and I am from New Milford, Connecticut. I recently earned my bachelor’s degree in Architectural Design and Technology and will begin my Master of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University this fall. Growing up in a Guatemalan household gave me a deep appreciation for community, culture, and the importance of creating spaces that foster connection. Those experiences continue to shape the way I think about architecture and the kinds of spaces I hope to bring to life. I’m grateful to be spending the summer at Pickard Chilton, where I have the opportunity each day to learn from an incredible team, contribute wherever I can, and continue growing as a designer."

"What I'm most excited about is that the campus becomes a catalyst for relationships." William D Chilton FAIA, RIBA, Principal Architect at Pickard Chilton and the design architect for Foundry Park, shared what he's most excited for our employees to experience at our expanded campus in Richmond. Every element of the space was intentionally designed with our employees in mind, from collaborative work environments to state-of-the-art amenities to 11-foot ceilings that bring in abundant natural light. All making sure that creativity, connection, and collaboration are at the center of the building. This conversation kicks off a new series spotlighting the people who helped bring our building to life, with questions sourced directly from our social community.

CoStar Group has officially opened our new Foundry Park campus in Richmond, VA. Forty years ago, I had a dream of creating value by digitizing real estate. Through hard work and innovation, we have built a company that improves peoples’ businesses and lives. Now, Foundry Park is where AI, art, and architecture converge, setting exactly the right tone for the next chapter at CoStar Group. From this building — itself a living AI sculpture — we will harness that technology to simplify and demystify the real estate process. We will make finding a home easier and more affordable. We will connect businesses with the space they need to grow and thrive. Thousands of people came together to make this campus happen. Thank you to William D Chilton FAIA, RIBA and Pickard Chilton, Kendall/Heaton Associates, Inc., Gensler, and all of our partners for bringing their greatest genius to this project. Foundry Park is a LEED Platinum campus, powered by renewable energy, with solar panels built into the very skin of the building. We are responsible to the environment, and to a sustainable future for all of us. And at every step, we kept our people and the Richmond community at the center of the design. Thank you to the state of Virginia and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and to the City of Richmond, Virginia for supporting this project and the creation of thousands of high-paying jobs. Thank you to Refik Anadol for helping us mark our AI future by creating a living artwork at Foundry Park, signaling to the entire world that Richmond, and CoStar Group, will lead in imagining what is possible in the age of AI. Thank you to the thousands of CoStar Group employees who have made this company a success. And a special thank you to Nadia O'Dea for her outstanding leadership in delivering this campus. We're proud to grow our presence and deepen our roots in the community not just by opening Foundry Park, but also by giving back to four institutions doing extraordinary work for Richmond, including: The The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU Foundation, Richmond Public Schools, and Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity. We look forward to building the future of CoStar Group at Foundry Park and bringing together the best teams anywhere to drive innovation, together.

A celebration to kick off construction was held for Knox & McKinney, a 12-story boutique office and luxury retail building in Dallas, Texas. The Pickard Chilton-designed project is under development by Trammell Crow Company, BDT & MSD Partners, Gillon Property Group, The Summers Group, and The Retail Connection. Knox & McKinney will offer 280,000-SF of premier office space alongside 20,000-SF of curated ground-floor retail and dining. Pickard Chilton’s design reflects the continued evolution of the workplace as a destination, one that brings together design, performance, hospitality, and a meaningful connection to its urban context. It features a high-performance curtain wall system with natural stone accents, large, insulated glass units with sweeping curved corners that soften the building’s presence while offering panoramic views across Knox and toward downtown Dallas. Conceived as a collection of articulated volumes carefully modulated in response to the site and surrounding urban context, the building provides access to terraces on multiple levels, while large, column-free floor plates and floor-to-ceiling glazing support flexible, light-filled work environments. Jones Day, one of the world’s largest law firms, has signed a 76,000 square-foot lease at the building. HKS, Inc. is the project’s architect of record, while DPR Construction is serving as general contractor.
