A teenager scrolling through their feed today is confronted with an endless stream of content: trending videos, health “hacks,” AI-generated images and breaking news, all blurring together in ways that are increasingly hard to decode. Within this constant flow lie real risks: misinformation that distorts reality, rumours that divide, and harmful content that erodes trust and wellbeing. Access to information is no longer the challenge. Understanding it is. That’s where Media and Information Literacy (#MIL) comes in. It equips people to find, question and understand information, to tell what’s true from what’s false. Yet in many education systems, MIL is still treated as a set of digital skills rather than what it truly is: the foundation of critical thinking in the digital age. At UNESCO, we work with countries worldwide to integrate these skills into classrooms and national education policies, empowering learners to think critically and navigate the online world safely. #AI tools are rapidly gaining popularity, becoming an alternative to traditional search engines. But when it comes to citing news, they fall short. Unlike traditional search engines that guide readers to original news sites, generative AI tools repackage content, cutting traffic to publishers. Their smooth conversational style often conceal serious flaws in information quality. This makes it urgent to examine how these systems access, present and cite news. UNESCO promotes Media and Information Literacy and Digital Competencies for all to empower people to think critically, navigate the online environment safely, and strengthen trust in our information ecosystem and digital technologies. AI can be useful — but it’s not always right. Before trusting a machine, double-check with real sources, real experts… real people. Because when AI makes mistakes, we pay the consequences. “AI Can Make Mistakes” is a campaign launched for Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2025 to promote critical thinking and responsible use of information. 🏁 COP10 Concludes: A Milestone for Sport Integrity and Global Cooperation 🌍 The 10th session of the Conference of Parties (COP10) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport has officially concluded at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris — marking a powerful close to three days of strategic dialogue, reflection, and renewed commitment. This year’s COP10 was especially significant as it celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Convention — the only legally binding international global instrument in the fight against doping in sport. Key outcomes from COP10 include: ✅ Adoption of forward-looking reforms to strengthen the Convention’s governance, compliance monitoring and sustainability ✅ Renewed commitment to cooperation between UNESCO and key stakeholders and partners, such as WADA, the IOC, the IPC, the CoE,  ✅ Support for expanding capacity-building and empowerment initiatives, through financial and in-kind assistance ✅ Stronger emphasis on funding mechanisms and national anti-doping frameworks These decisions will shape the future of global sport integrity, reinforcing the Convention’s role in promoting sport values, ethics and integrity. The 2025 laureates of the UNESCO #ICT Prize have been announced: ➡️ AI4InclusiveEducation, Belgium ➡️ Piauí Inteligência Artificial, Brazil ➡️ Mahara-Tech, Egypt ➡️ Experience AI – Raspberry Pi Foundation, United Kingdom This year’s edition rewards projects that are equipping learners and teachers with the knowledge and skills needed for the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence. In the current AI era, education is key to develop such engagement. The UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of ICT in Education, established in 2005 with the support of the Kingdom of Bahrain, rewards projects that are designing and using digital technologies to enhance equitable access to quality learning and teaching.
