Film How Dwayne Johnson’s ‘The Smashing Machine’ Went Down For The Count
The film earned a 15-minute ovation after its Venice debut and truly seemed to have an awards glow — then it posted the lowest opening of the former pro wrestler’s acting career. But the story of UFC champ Mark Kerr was his passion project and, despite being a tap-out at the box office, will bleed little for A24. The pic has a net $50 million production cost with tax credits from Vancouver and New Mexico, so it won’t lose much, with esitmates ranging from $10 million-$15 million.
