The Overland Museum is a privately owned Museum dedicated to preserving the history of this great Australian railway icon. The Overland first commenced in 1887 and in its nearly 130 years of operation is one of the oldest interstate trains in Australia. The Overland Museum is self-funded and non–profit, non-government entity, and has been set up to celebrate the rich history of this train. The collection includes a restored 1951 build sleeping carriage housed undercover along with many artefacts and photos relating to The Overland with some items dating back to 1909.
The museum wouldn’t exist without the generosity of individuals and organisations donating funds and or artefacts to grow the museum. The Overland Museum has had great support from other kindred societies, such as the National Railway Museum in Port Adelaide. Much of the archival material is derived from a number of private donors, who wish to see their railway memorabilia preserved.
