Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)
The Master of Arts in Teaching at Mount Holyoke College is an accelerated coed teacher education program for aspiring elementary, middle, and secondary school teachers. The flexible, 11-month M.A.T. includes an innovative curriculum, a unique collaboration with Expeditionary Learning (EL), personalized advising, and initial teacher licensure in 19 subject areas. For 175 years, teacher preparation has been a hallmark of Mount Holyoke, which has graduated outstanding educators who have transformed communities around the world. Mount Holyoke student teachers are placed in a variety of public, charter, and independent schools and are consistently rated as “excellent” and “outstanding” by their supervising teachers. Students who complete the teacher licensure program have a 100 percent pass rate on the Massachusetts Test for Education Licensure (MTEL).
