Helen Gurley Brown, the longtime editor of Cosmopolitan, author of several books including “Sex and the Office” (1964), “Helen Gurley Brown’s Single Girl’s Cookbook” (1969) and “Sex and the New Single Girl” (1970) -- and Carrie Bradshaw's originator, passed away yesterday at age 90.

"I would want my legacy to be, 'She created something that helped people.' My reader, I always felt, was someone who needed to come into her own."
