Biography

Professional I took 3rd place at the 2011 USA Championships in Eugene Oregon; it is the highest I have placed at the Championships in the four years that I have thrown at it (18th-2008, 4th 2009, 10th-2010). Chasing the standard in July I competed at the 2011 Toronto International Track and Field Games, only to place 2nd throwing 77.72m (255'). In a last chance effort to make the World Championship team I threw in Portland Oregon at the Mac Wilkins Throws Center. I grabbed the B Standard throwing 80.86m (265'4"). I missed the World Championship team however I did make the Pan American Games team. I concluded my first season as a professional earning a silver medal and throwing the Olympic A Standard and a season best 82.24m (269’10"). University of Oregon (2009-2010)

In my first year as a redshirt Junior I started my season off with seven straight wins, two personal bests, I grabbed the University of Oregon school record, and broke the PAC-10 javelin record throwing my current personal best of 83.16m (272'10"), and won my first PAC-10 Championship in the javelin. I later took 4th at the 2009 NCAA Championships becoming an All-American; I also took 4th place at the 2009 USA Championship. Two weeks later I tore injured my left knee playing basketball, tearing my ACL, MCL, lateral meniscus, and a 1cm tear in my joint capsule.

I opened my 2010 season with an NCAA leading throw of 78.19m. I defended my PAC-10 Title by only 2cm with a winning throw of 77.21m (253'4"). I failed to make finals, placing 10th overall at the NCAA Championships. but still managing to be an All-American for the second time. At the 2010 USA Championships I placed 9th after yet again injuring my left knee on my third throw. I tore my ACL, MCL and medial meniscus. While the injury ended my season my achievements earlier in the year on the field and my academic achievements in the classroom awarded me the first team Academic All-American Award.

I finished school in 2010 at the University of Oregon with a 3.64 GPA and a Bachelor of Science degree in School of Architecture & Allied Arts

Lane Community College

I competed on the Lane Community College basketball and track and field team. In my last meet of the 2007 season I got a personal best and took 2nd place at the NWAACC Championships throwing 63.56m (208'6")

I competed at the NWAACC conference decathlon in 2008 finishing 4th just 5 points behind 3rd place scoring 5995 points, running a 4:35 in the 1500m. At the NWAACC Championships I furthered my personal best in the javelin throwing 73.63m (241'7") breaking the Lane Community College school record by almost 30 feet. I won the Conference Field Athlete of the year award and qualified for the Olympic Trials in 2008. I finished the year at the Olympic Trials placing 18th just 1 foot behind American Record holder Breaux Greer.

Academically I finished school at Lane Community College with a 3.30 GPA and an Associate Arts Degree

Weber State University

I worked on the indoor weight throw and hammer throw in the fall and winter seasons I came back to Oregon during my spring break to throw unattached at the Oregon Preview. While I was there I had strained my elbow near its breaking point only managing to throw 56.46m. Just four weeks later at a meet at BYU I completely tore my ulnar collateral ligament in my right elbow. I finished the school year at Weber State but asked to be released to compete for another school the following year.

Newberg High School

I lettered in football, basketball, and baseball at Newberg High School but it wasn't until my senior year in 2005 that I picked up a javelin. Just after three weeks of throwing the javelin at my first meet when I threw 186'7" (57.18m). I finished up the year taking first place at the PAC-9 District meet, breaking the meet record throwing 199'2" (60.70m), and I also took 5th that day in the triple jump. At the Oregon State Meet despite throwing what would have been a state leading throw any other day of the year of 201'5" (61.49m) I took third overall. I finished the year recording a personal best of 205'2" (62.55m) at the 2005 USA Junior Nationals beating out the #1 ranked javelin thrower by two inches that day and taking 5th place.

While not only being a 4 sport athlete I graduated all honors with a 3.34 GPA at Newberg High School.

Personal

I love track and field, but I also am actually a website/graphic designer. I like to say that track and field is my job/profession and designing is my second job, but that would be a slight exaggeration since my job as a website/graphic designer pays my bills, whereas being a track and field athlete you don't make any money (I made $2,273 in 2011 from throwing a javelin). I have been a computer nerd all my life and always hoped someday I could get paid for it. I work for the project management team for the 2012 US Olympic Trials Track and Field. I do front end web design and most of their graphic design. They work well with my schedule allowing me to train 4-6 hours a day in the afternoons, the fact that they are a track and field company only makes it that much better. In my off time I love to cook/bake, watch movies, and do just about anything outdoors. I have two older siblings, an older sister Fayth (27) who lives in New York and an older brother David (28) who resides in Oregon.
