We have had a good weekend behind us with the Spyker MF1-team. It's a shame that we had a problem in the Japanese Grand Prix, at Suzuka. Because of a broken exhaust my rear suspension overheated, and eventually broke. The back of my car was entirely blown to pieces and I was passed by my own rear wheel! Up to that moment we had a very competitive weekend. I qualified myself as sixteenth and in the race I was fighting for positions with the Red Bull and Toro Rosso drivers.
After the Japanese Grand Prix I flew with KLM from Nagoya, via Seoul to Amsterdam. That is a long flight. I had some trouble falling asleep, so I watched movies for the entire trip. It was almost like a movie marathon! The people of KLM were enormously helpful and I have seen all the movies I wanted to see. The service was excellent. I want to thank everyone at KLM for the great flight!
Wednesday evening I will travel to Silverstone, because I will test there on Thursday. I will be focusing on testing tyres for the Grand Prix of Brazil, the last race of the season. Hopefully we can improve our performance in the last race, although I think it will be very difficult. Interlagos has a lot of straights and our top speed is still not good enough. At Silverstone we will prepare a good set-up for the race. Hopefully we will make it into the second qualifying again!
There are some nice things going on at Spyker MF1 at the moment. The factory in Silverstone is slowly becoming Spyker and everyone in the team is really excited. We are all waiting for the arrival of top designer Mike Gascoyne, he will become a member of our team November 1st. Furthermore we will have Ferrari engines in our cars next year. The communication between Ferrari and Spyker goes very smoothly. Everyone is very positive concerning the new engines. Dutch companies also start to show more and more interest in our team, that is a good thing.
I have heard that the Dutch ING bank has shown interest in Formula 1 now too. That is great news, but it's a real shame that this Dutch multinational wants to support a French team, instead of the Dutch Spyker team. I think that the Dutch should be more patriotic at times. We have to give our country some more support!
