Sparky's Pwnage Opens!
- Virax -
6/30/04 6:41 PST - Elsewhere on the Web BU's Sparky has opened up his own personal spin off of CliffyB Ownage... Pwnage. Sparky's site allows commenting via the BU forums (each map has it's own thread), quick downloads, and something else Cliffy's missing - more than one screenshot per map. Here's what Sparky has to say.
Welcome to Pwnage, your number one stop for only the best in custom Unreal Tournament 2004 maps, and more. I spend my spare time downloading maps, and grow tired of downloading the same crap over, and over again. Here you'll only find the best of the best, and as many people know I have pretty high standards.
The site has a very stylish, clean, and well thought out layout, and there are already two maps up! This is definately in my bookmarks, especially seeing as Cliff seems to have ditched his own 0wnage as of late.
Clone Bandits 1.0 Released!
- Virax -
6/30/04 3:15 PST - UT2004 Modifications Clone Bandits is, in the opinion of many, one of the better mods out that has unfortunately been overlooked by far too many. Version 1.0 is now out, and if you haven't yet, be sure to download it!
Demiurge Studios is proud to announce the release of Clone Bandits
(v1.0), a new mod for Unreal Tournament 2004. With its innovative gameplay, brand-new vehicles, and surf-guitar soundtrack, Clone Bandits aims to give players a decidedly different spin on team-based vehicle combat. Go online or play with bots to enter the post-apocalyptic future, where two warring clans of ruffians and ne'er-do-wells have built their outposts over the ruins of a military research compound, which just happens to be stocked with life-giving clones.
Sweet, sweet clones! It's your duty to steal this precious genetic cargo, and
deliver the little fellas to a new, better home. Trafficking in human flesh
was never so easy or fun!
Note: I've bumped this from yesterday, due to some issues which resulted in most people not being able to see the post for a period of time.
BazziNet Is Alive!
- Virax -
6/30/04 3:32 PST - Elsewhere on the Web Bastian 'Bazzi' Grupe has recently put up BazziNet, a site covering all
previous UT2004 guides he has created, and more. I'm told that the site will be a source for documents for Mod Authors, Server Admins, Players and Coding in general (a bit like UDN). Thus far, the following guides are competed:
In addition, the following guides are already underway:
Creating a mod system using UMOD
Setting up and maintaining a DedicatedServer
This is, and definately will continue to be, an exceptionally useful site. Keep your eyes on this one, ladies and gents!

New Vehicle added, the BigWheel
Ingame vehicle settings menu
Several maps updated
Patched a suicide exploit
Added more empty vehicle cleanup code
Increased FlipMine damage
Many minor code changes
Carball is available for download in zip, umod, and sit (I believe that's for Mac) formats right here! :)

6/29/04 13:33 PST - UT2004 Modifications The latest news on Strike Force 2004 includes the announcement of totally new and custom animations for their player models, and the announcement/screenshots release of Pipeline, their newest map in progress.

IvanGraphics Releases CTF-IG-Scafander
- Virax -
6/29/04 13:21 PST - UnrealEd Editing/Levels Our own IvanGraphics has recently released CTF-IG-Scanfander, a very stylish and well thought out CTF map, with custom content to boot!
Well it has few nice features that I don't think every retail and/or custom map has; It has simple and rememberble layout. There is support for
20 players :D. It is not overdetailed so you can see your enemies quite
fine, and it's quite optimized :). It has many paths, and is especially loveable for translocator lovers - it's almost as fun and tricky as in plain-old CTF-FACE :D
Linux UT2003 Patch Released
- Virax -
6/28/04 21:08 PST - General Unreal News First things first - this is a UT2003 patch, not a UT2004 patch. This fixes bugs (namely a security exploit) that Linux UT2004 users should already have, assuming they're on the latest patch. The full list of changes, thanks to BU, is as follows:
All sorts of Unix, OpenGL, OpenAL, etc related fixes from the MacOS X port.
Built with gcc3.
Several bogus memory access fixes.
OpenAL and libSDL updated to UT2004 versions.
Closed security hole with GameSpy "secure" packet buffer overflow.
The patch updates the game to build 2225.3, and is available for download right here. Thanks to Xink for letting me know that this was fully released. :)
