The Making of DOOM 3

With all the hubbub about the August 3rd release date, interestingly enough WalMart (and only WalMart it seems) has a book on their website set to release sometime in August 2004 called "The Making of Doom 3: The Official Guide". The book is by author Steven L. Kent who has also done such books as "The Ultimate History of Video Games" and as well as behind the scenes looks at Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and Ages of Empires. The book is described as "an unique title designed to appeal to Doom fanatics as it brings fans an in-depth, inside look at the creators, the art and music, the design, and the history of Doom."Sounds like an excellent addition to any DOOM fans collection! Thanks to deathster666 for the find! Tuesday, June 22, 2004

Along with a new box image, GameStop.com has posted up that they have confirmed the release date of DOOM 3 to be August 3rd 2004. Other retailers across the country such as EB Games have also switched to that date as well. Keep an eye on other game retailers to see if they join in with that date, but then again, keep in mind that April 15th and June 15th came and went without a peep when the retailers had that pegged as a release date as well. After a few months of hiding out in a local tavern, the Squish has been tracked down and brought back home surly and stinky as ever to answer more of your mind boggling questions. After reading some of these e-mails sent in to him, I don't blame him for taking off. But all is well and he's back and set to work and seeing as this is his 2nd year anniversary with us on Earth, what better way to celebrate than to have him answer more questions? You can check out the latest article right here. Thursday, June 10, 2004

Todd Hollenshead revealed in an interview recently that Warner Brothers, who had the rights to the DOOM movie, was almost out of time on their option of 15 months and if they didn't use the license, then it would be shopped around to another production studio. It seems Warners Brothers has in fact passed on the option for the DOOM movie and it has now been picked up by Universal Pictures. Dark Horizons also says that producers Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and John Wells, and Enda McCallion have been attached to the project and that the script, originated by Dave Callaham, is adapted from the plotline of the third game, which as we know is a re-telling of the first.
Update: We received an e-mail from John [JCal] Callaham over at HomeLan Fed letting us know that they went to id themselves for confirmation of this story and here's what Todd Hollenshead had to say about the whole movie hubbub and what is actually happening: "The movie rights have reverted to id, as Warner's option period expired. However, we remain a "free agent" at this time and multiple studios are interested in the project. The team of John Wells (ER, et. al.) and Lorenzo DiBonaventura (The Matrix, et. al.) that has been working on the project for over a year will remain affiliated with the DOOM movie. The studio question at this point primarily involves the financing." Wednesday, June 2, 2004

For our last poll, we asked who you thought kicked more ass, Demons or Aliens. Sadly the Demons trounced the Aliens from one side of the ring to the other with 80% of the votes. Demons over Aliens? I dunno about that. I mean come on, Greedo! He was a kick ass alien but then again he did get punked pretty easily, so what do I know. The new poll is up and we want to know with all the release date rumours and everyone and being able to "confirm" it because a store or magazine says so or because their friends mothers sisters best friends roomate works for Activision, Do you think that DOOM will see the light of day in June? Get voting and let us know know what you think! |
