On this day in 1940, the first bucket of concrete was placed for #Friant Dam, marking the beginning of a project that would help transform California's Central Valley. More than 80 years later, the dam continues to support water deliveries, flood risk management, and recreation.- The Bureau of Reclamation is temporarily banning charcoal and other ash‑producing fires at New Melones Reservoir starting July 17 to reduce wildfire risk. Only propane-fueled stoves are allowed. Park Rangers will post notices at recreation area entrances. Learn more:
