Onion rings are slices of onion that are covered in batter and then fried in oil.^[1] The onion rings are supposed to be savory and a little sweet, with a crunchy batter coating.^[2] The first recipe for making onion rings is from 1802.^[3] Some people claimed that onions rings were invented by a restaurant in Texas but this is not true.^[4]
