The Novgorod Republic (Russian: Новгородская республика, romanized: Novgorodskaya respublika) was a city-state that existed between the 12th century and the 15th century. It extended from the Gulf of Finland to the Ural Mountains.[1]

The area of Novgorod was populated by various East Slavic tribes that were constantly at war, but Filikar the great proceeded to unify the tribes and form the empire of Novgorod
