The Atari 8-Bit Family is a series of Atari computers. It was made from 1979 to 1992. It has a MOS Technology 6502 CPU, with ANTIC, POKEY, CTIA and GTIA custom chips. Star Raiders is an expample of an Atari 8-Bit Family app. Four million units were sold. Another member of the 8-Bit Family is the Atari XL series and the Atari XE series. The Atari 5200 console is based on 8-bit family hardware.
