Warning: contains spoilers for X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #88Marvel's X-Men Green plot has seen a beloved and heroic mutant, Nature Girl, slowly transform into a horrifyingly twisted villain, with her latest evolution in X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #88 turning her into an unofficial Omega-Level powerhouse, calling herself "Armageddon Girl."
Lin Li was originally a Generation X student under the care of Jubilee - a sweet, innocent, and powerful young mutant who befriended other outcasts like Eye-Boy, before becoming jaded by the environmental devastation caused by humanity.
Nature Girl's evolution into the seemingly Omega-Level nature manipulator Armageddon Girl has played out over the past two years in an ongoing X-Men Green story which just reached its tipping point in X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #88 - from writer Steve Orlando and artists Emilio Laiso and Rachelle Rosenberg - with Lin Li going up directly against Jean Grey and Synch.
Nature Girl's Full Evolution Is Complete
Lin Li's path to becoming Armageddon Girl started because of her powers, which allow her to commune with Earth and feel its pain as her own. After slaughtering some innocent humans Nature Girl was thrown into the Pit, then saved by Krakoa and Cypher, before teaming up with Curse, Sauron, and Armageddon Man to take down humanity. Through a series of mishaps and blunders, often involving the elderly villains Hordeculture, Nature Girl's evolution into a full-fledged villain continued, most likely spurred on by her relationship with Curse, who seems to have accidentally cursed Lin Li into becoming a villain even faster with her mutant cursing ability.
The last several issues of this 'X-Men Green' arc have seen Nature Girl and Gwen Warren - a spider-transforming clone of Gwen Stacy made by the Jackal - developing the Genus serum, a way to devolve humans into a bestial state... until Gwen realized that Nature Girl had lost control, prompting her to call on the X-Men for help. After Jean Grey destroyed the Genus serum, Nature Girl became furious, pushing her powers beyond any previously known limit and transforming herself into the rage-filled Armageddon Girl.
Armageddon Girl Is the Definition of Omega-Level
When Jonathan Hickman re-established the system for defining Omega-level mutants at the beginning of the Krakoan era, he clarified that it's a mutant whose power has no upper limit within its own classification. While Marvel has yet to identify Armageddon Girl as an Omega-level mutant, it's difficult to imagine how anyone could have more control over nature. Her ability to control animals has expanded across the world, and she can now manipulate the tectonic plates and natural gases of the planet. Jean Grey, an Omega-level mutant, and Synch, a mutant who has been hinted to be Omega-level, are not prepared at all for Armageddon Girl's latest assault, and the empowered villain is actually holding her own against two of the most powerful X-Men ever.
Nature Girl's initial anger at humanity was incredibly sympathetic and made a lot of sense, but her swift evolution into the potentially Omega-level nature manipulator Armageddon Girl has made her a villain that the X-Men may be forced to take down for good.
