When a total solar eclipse happens, we take to the skies – for science. Each time the Moon covers the Sun, it presents new opportunities to better understand our star and its influence on Earth. On Aug. 12, NASA-funded science teams will be chasing the Moon’s shadow with a high-altitude jet and scientific balloons to investigate the Sun’s dynamics and how the temporary darkening of our skies affects our atmosphere. On Aug. 12, you have the chance to experience a total solar eclipse – no matter where you are. Starting at 1:15 p.m. EDT (1715 UTC), we'll stream live as the Moon passes in front of the Sun, bringing the views and the science straight to you. People in Greenland, Iceland, and Spain will get to see the total solar eclipse with their own eyes, while viewers in most of Canada and parts of the U.S. will get to see a partial solar eclipse. Before you head outside to watch the eclipse, be sure to have eclipse glasses – not sunglasses – or an indirect viewing method to use. Our newest wind tunnel, the Flight Dynamics Research Facility (FDRF) opened today, July 31 – the first we've built in 40 years. https://lnkd.in/eNGRBXSb The 25,000-square-foot building will help us test the safety and performance of future generations of aircraft, rockets, and space exploration vehicles for Moon and Mars missions.
