To publish a piece of journalism like the one you just read, a journalist will pitch a story to an editor and begin the rigorous process of reporting, verifying, writing and re-writing. But since the explosion of generative AI, readers are naturally left questioning whether anything they read online is actual journalism anymore.

Our critical thinking is working the way it ought to — that's a good thing! But audience trust in news media has been fraught for a long time and generative AI is only making it worse. Here at The Tyee, we want to be a refuge from that.
